Recent field notes from evening sessions, written for quick scanning before your next night under the sky.

  1. •

Sky: Clear, light northern breeze, steady seeing

    Focus: Andromeda Galaxy (M31)

Galaxy core stood out immediately at 10×50 binocular magnification; the elongated halo became easier to trace with averted vision after full dark adaptation. Best visibility was between 21:10 and 21:35 before low haze began forming over the eastern horizon.

  2. •

Sky: Thin cirrus bands, moderate transparency

    Focus: Double Cluster in Perseus

Both clusters remained distinct despite passing cloud filaments, with brighter blue-white members visible first and fainter stars resolving in short clear windows. A low-power eyepiece gave the most balanced framing and made the pair easier for first-time members to identify.

  3. •

Sky: Humid air, intermittent gusts, fair seeing

    Focus: Saturn and ring profile

At 120×, ring tilt remained clearly defined and the planet’s disk showed soft band contrast during calmer moments between wind gusts. Titan was consistently visible off the western side, and members reported the sharpest views after reducing eyepiece swaps to preserve focus and adaptation.

  4. •

Sky: Transparent after rain, excellent horizon clarity

Focus: Cygnus star fields along the Milky Way

Wide-field sweeps from Deneb toward Albireo revealed dense star clouds and several dark-lane interruptions that were visible without optical aid. The session produced strong orientation notes for beginners learning to move from bright anchor stars to richer background fields.
